Preparing Yourself
These
journeys are designed as times of learning and reflection
on what matters in our lives. By experiencing different
communities we hope you will see your own context more
clearly. In hearing how others seek to make a difference
you may reflect on your own priorities. And in the vastness
of the wilderness you have an opportunity to grow
stronger spiritual anchors for that journey.
To this end it is really important that your prepare
yourself well for the journey, not simply by making sure
that you bring the right gear but also that you come
in the right frame of mind with your spirit prepared
for the experience. We invite you to do some preparation and reflection before you come on the journey.
Perhaps
do some preliminary reading, follow up an interest beforehand,
bring some reflective material to read or ways of expressing
creativity. Your trip leader may provide you with some
useful preliminary reading material a month or two before
the journey. They may also bring some reflective or devotional
resources on the journey that you can make use of.
This is important to making the most of the experience.
There is no doubt you will get from this experience what
you put into it! We have high hopes you will enjoy whatever
the experience throws at you. But our hopes are higher
than that. We hope you discover more about yourself,
priorities and purposes for your life and get more in
touch with your spirits in a very large cosmos.
The desert is too big and too dry to tackle it without
adequate preparation. Prepare well and you will have
a great time…Our vehicles are prepared very carefully…What
about you? How will you prepare?
The resources here may be useful. One is a bibliography
of useful reading material you may want to get hold of
if you have an interest in reading beforehand. The other two are reflections on preparing yourself for the journey - please try to read these before arriving.
